Wim van den Doel (1962) is Member of the Executive Board of the Dutch Research Council (NWO), Chair of the NWO Domain Social Sciences & Humanities, and Professor of Contemporary History at Leiden University.

Wim van den Doel is a Dutch historian who received his PhD in 1994 under the direction of Professor Cees Fasseur on ‘The Silent Power. The European domestic administration on Java and Madura 1808-1942’.

In 2003 he was appointed Professor of Contemporary History at Leiden University. He has published various books on colonial and post-colonial history. From 2007-2016 he was Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at Leiden University.

Since January 2017 he is member of the Executive Board of NWO and Chair of the NWO Domain Social Sciences & Humanities. In the Executive Board of NWO, he is portfolio holder international cooperation, in particular responsible for internationalisation of Dutch science.
