Prof. Dar-Bin Shieh currently is the Deputy Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology. He served as the Distinguished Professor of the Institute of Oral Medicine in National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and the session chief of Oral Diagnosis and Pathology in the Stomatology Department in NCKU Medical Center. Since 2013, he also served as the founding Chair of the International Institute of Macromolecular Analysis and Nanomedicine Innovations (iMANI). His research interest is focused on translational nanomedicine, biophotonics, mitochondria medicine and cancer biology. He received a continuous 9 years of National Nano Science and Technology Program Project founding and 6-year Taiwan Canada joint research collaboration in advanced molecular imaging. He bridged NCKU Medical College with College of Science, of Engineering, and of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences in cross-discipline translational medicine. His diverse scientific and clinical foundation enables him to unite medical physicians with out-of-hospital faculty to form a number of strong cross-disciplinary R&D teams and continuously obtained large-scale National Program Projects in Genomics, Nanotechnology, Biotechnology and Medicine and Medical Device Development programs, and was highly recognized by the academia society in Taiwan and internationally. In addition to his outstanding academic achievements, Prof. Shieh also actively pursues industrialization of his research innovations and has achieved brilliant results. He has not only won the National Innovation Award for four years in a row since 2014 and successful technology transfer. Through years of follow-up contracted development, the forefront lead has entered into clinical phase III trial. His laboratory members later won consecutive several years of SPARK innovation program, each holding away 2 million NTD of award fund, and established new startups in 2014 and 2016, respectively. The first one has resided in the South Taiwan Science Park to profit and expanding production capacity. The second company just stationed into university incubation center last year. The company has successfully entered A-round fund-raising stage. The outstanding industrial-academic collaboration achievements led him to receive the 9th Nanotechnology Elite Award in 2013 by the Ministry of Economics.
